Garden trugs
Sarah’s version of the garden trug is handwoven with a mix of Black Maul and Dicky Meadow willow. Inspired by two edwardian english willow garden trugs, the Munstead trug and her allotment neighbours, these trugs are sympathetic to the originals with all traditional techniques but include modern detailing and chunky handles. Dimensions: length 55cm x width 32cm x height 26cm (including handle).
Process wise, Sarah first created a replica of her neighbours original edwardian trug, then used it (carrying lots of homegrown vegetables!) in order to understand every reason to it’s function, form and detail. With this understanding Sarah then created her own version aiming for the trug to be the ultimnate size for cut flowers, vegetables and merry arm swinging!
By 2021, the more Sarah recreated traditional baskets that had been found in antique shops and museums, the more she realised that there is no need, so to speak, to rip up the rule book of traditional English baskets. Willow baskets can be updated with style, colour and beautiful detailing whilst retaining both their full functionality and traditional techniques.
