Fine Arts & Crafts movement ebonised chair with rush seat, attributed to influential designer E W Godwin.

This elegant and delicate occassional chair has been finely rush seated by Sarah, using rush locally harvested from the Somerset Levels. 

Under Sarah’s mums tuition, (who was a professional cane and rush chair seater), in 2020 Sarah began taking on the techniques and skills required in order to be able to proficiently rush seat original Arts & Crafts furniture. 

Similar chairs can be found that were designed by E W Godwin and illustrated in William Watt's Art Furniture 1877 catalogue and also in the Heal & Son's 1884 catalogue. Being a study piece, this chair is not for sale. 2020.
