New Flower Basket Willow Day Workshop Success! 26/2/23
Oh I do love it when a new workshop comes together so successfully! 6 lovely returnees and 2 fab willow weaving newbie students made my new willow Flower Basket workshop an absolute joy to teach.
It’s always a little nerve wracking designing a brand new basket and hoping that you’ve judged the skill level and timings of a full day workshop just right. As the day progressed, long narrow basket bases were conquered, gorgeous Dicky Meadow willow flowed and I began to relax and be reminded that this is why I so love teaching.
With my love of the Arts & Crafts movement, (and determination to one day be found wafting around a beautiful walled garden picking long stem roses!) a couple of years ago I explored making and reinterpreting the ‘Munstead’ garden trug, a willow basket designed by Gertrude Jekyll.
Inspired by this heritage basket, I designed and create a contemporary interpretation that I can teach in a day, offering experienced basketmakers the chance to hone their Square work skills whilst still being achievable for adventurous beginners .
As you can see from the photo, everyone was so pleased with their baskets and I feel so proud of them all!
If you would like to join me later this Spring making this or another of my baskets please head to my workshop page and book via the ‘Booking Enquiry Form’. 1 Day workshop £105, includes all materials and option of a delicious lunch from the Lost Kitchen restaurant.
Lovely convenient Devon venue and bonus extra of after making your gorgeous flower basket to get that floaty dress on and join me wafting around Pre-Raphaelite style in the gorgeous close by gardens at National Trust Knightshayes, with of course a promise not to go picking their blooms or be found swooning over their Arts & Crafts hedges… Sarah X
