Willow Bird Cage Dress

Created for the Basketry & Beyond Festival in 2013, I was inspired by an 1860's dress to make a white willow bodice and cage skirt complete with sculptural garden birds inside!

The dress was winner of the Light Fantastic Wearable Parade.

To create this dress I took design inspiration and used basketry techniques found in a traditional child's pony seat and a lobster pot!

Detail included a bird cage door, roses and even a sculptural bird swinging on it's perch!
